
Expo 2020 Dubai – Celebrating Women Change-makers
Expo 2020 Dubai is the first Expo since the 1900s to have a stand-alone pavilion dedicated to Women. The Expo 2020 Women’s Pavilion will feature creative content and programming that will help affirm Expo’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The pavilion is unveiled in collaboration with Cartier that will celebrate female change-makers.
The Dedicated pavilion reminds the world that full and equal participation of women in all fields is essential to building a more equitable and just world. The Pavilion will invite visitors to recognize and celebrate the central role that women, known and unknown, have played throughout history, leading up to the present. The members are convinced that the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous world cannot be achieved without gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Under the exhibition titled “New Perspectives” and a packed schedule of programming, the Women’s Pavilion aims to inspire all who enter its doors to become change-makers, stereotypes and deconstructing misconceptions on women’s roles. . .
A meaningful set of participants will be highlighted upon including French interior architect Laura Gonzalez, Dubai-born artist Kholoud Sharafi, French light designer Pauline David, International multidisciplinary artist El Seed, Lebanese actress, and the first female Arab director to be nominated for an Oscar Nadine Labaki and many others will share their stories to inspire a generation of strong women. The Women’s Pavilion has also been endorsed by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women.
The pavilion features five structures with different narratives located on the ground floor: Introduction – expressing the purpose of the pavilion; Achievements – shining a light on women’s impact on the world; Challenges – acknowledging what is holding women back; Solutions – highlighting the initiatives enabling women to thrive so humanity can thrive, and Engaging with visitors – encouraging them to become champions of gender equality and women’s empowerment and take the journey forward.
Spanning across the six months, a plethora of meaningful events including dialogues, enhancing knowledge of gender equality and women’s empowerment, and other collaborative action will be shared with the world. Expo 2020 and Cartier will also celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March 2022 by hosting a global forum under the theme of ‘Creating New Perspectives.
